Reach Truck
A reach truck is used to store pallets of goods, supplies, and to keep storage areas orderly. The reach truck comes in quite a few models: the double-deep reach, straddle reach and the stand-up reach.
The simplest kind is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide beneath the pallet and move it to the right storage place. The forks slide the pallet into position. This kind of reach truck is suitable when shelving units are just one pallet in depth.
The double-deep reach truck is like the stand-up, but is best for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods. This model has telescopic forks intended to put the pallet at the rear of the shelving unit. This eliminates the need to push the pallet back when another pallet should go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the added advantage of being able to not only slide underneath the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are suitable for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in many directions. This particular model is ideal in conditions where goods would not be damaged if the sides of the pallet are grabbed.
Usually more than one type of reach truck is required in warehouses. Textile companies and manufacturing facilities use various types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to operate and can make the most of available storage space while increasing production.
